Delhi News: A 43-year-old man has been arrested for alleged sexual harassment after he reportedly touched a female passenger inappropriately while she was sleeping on an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Chennai on Wednesday.

The incident occurred when the woman, who was seated in a window seat, fell asleep during flight. Rajesh Sharma, the accused, was seated behind her in another window seat. According to the woman’s complaint, she was awakened by the unwanted contact.

Upon landing at Chennai’s Meenambakkam airport at approximately 4:30 pm, the woman sought assistance from the airline staff and filed a police report. An officer at the All Women’s Police Station at the airport confirmed the details, stating, “The woman has registered a complaint that while she was asleep, the accused, who was sitting behind her, touched her inappropriately.”

A Chennai airport official noted that Sharma was seated in 3A when the incident allegedly took place. The official added, “The female passenger was willing to give a police complaint, so our staff assisted her.”

Following the complaint, police registered a case under Section 75 (sexual harassment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Rajesh Sharma, originally from Rajasthan but residing in Chennai for several years, was apprehended by authorities shortly after the flight landed.

Earlier, a man on an IndiGo flight was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman on board. The woman claimed the man attempted to harass her by raising the armrest and trying to grope her during a late-night flight to Guwahati, when the cabin lights were dimmed. Based on her accusations, an FIR was filed against the man.

In an official statement, IndiGo confirmed, "A male passenger on flight 6E 5319 from Mumbai to Guwahati was handed over to Guwahati Police upon arrival after a fellow passenger reported alleged sexual harassment."
