Delhi Cold Wave: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold wave alert for Delhi and other nearby cities for the next few days. The senior doctors of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) issued a health advisory for the residents, advising them to take precautionary measures. They asserted that the cold wave can be life-threatening for people with heart, lung, diabetes, and kidney problems. The doctors further stated that the children and the senior citizens are most likely to be affected by the cold wave. The health ministry has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid inconveniences.

In their advisory, the doctors advised the residents to reduce salt intake, increase water intake, walk at appropriate hours, and not neglect the necessary medication in the upcoming days. Dr Rajiv Narang, a cardiologist at AIIMS, stated that the blood vessels constrict due to cold, leading to a sudden increase in blood pressure. He further advised the residents to not ignore the serious symptoms, including chest tightness, shortness of breath, sudden fatigue, and swelling in legs.

The doctors advised the residents to avoid salt and processed foods, further suggesting that they continuously monitor their blood pressure. The senior citizens have been advised to avoid going for walks in the morning or evening hours to ensure safety. The health ministry stated that the air quality is not likely to improve in the upcoming days, further advising the residents to wear a mask during the outdoor activities to avoid inconveniences.

The weather department has stated that the northern states are set to witness a sharp drop in temperature in the upcoming days. These states are likely to witness cold waves and dense fog, especially in the early hours. The presence of fog has disrupted the flight and train services, leading to inconveniences for the passengers.
