In a shocking incident, a house help, along with his accomplices, held a businessman’s family hostage and fled with jewellery worth around Rs 25 lakh from the residence in the upscale Golf Links area, Delhi.
According to the police, the incident took place on Thursday evening at around 6 pm, when the newly hired domestic help, along with five others, barged into the residence of Ashok Chawla, owner of a liquor company, Whiskin Spirits, and robbed the jewellery within the span of 15-20 minutes.
Chawla, along with his wife, daughter-in-law and a child, was present at the time of the incident in the house. Hired for less than a week, the house help, identified as Sushil, is reported to be the prime conspirator enabling entry for others, reported PTI.
The group, allegedly armed with hammer and sticks, held the family hostage and forced them to hand over the valuables. No one was harmed during the incident, and the family was freed after the accused left.
As per the officials, the group planned the robbery with prior information regarding the best time to enter the busy residential locality and the location of the valuables in the house. Investigators revealed that the CCTV footage shows six men entering the house in a coordinated manner, with a few waiting for the vehicular movement to stop before entering.
