- Dance teacher in Delhi jumped into Yamuna due to iPhone EMI.
- Deepak Kumar rescued by police and flood department quickly.
- Financial stress from declining income prompted the extreme act.
Delhi: A 30-year-old dance teacher allegedly jumped into the Yamuna in southeast Delhi on Friday after being unable to pay the EMIs on an iPhone.
The incident occurred the same day three members of a family in Maharashtra died after falling off a cliff during a standoff over an argument regarding EMIs on an iPhone. Subsequent developments in that case have pointed to other factors, though.
Delhi Dance Teacher Jumps Into Yamuna
In southeast Delhi's Kalindi Kunj, a man identified as Deepak Kumar jumped into the Yamuna river around 8:30 PM, prompting an immediate response from patrolling police personnel. A team reached the spot and informed the flood department, which deployed a rescue boat and brought Kumar to safety.
Kumar, a resident of Okhla in southeast Delhi, lives with his wife and two children. He works as a dance teacher and takes on gardening work on the side.
During questioning, he told police that his income had declined over the past few months, making it difficult for him to pay the monthly instalments on his iPhone. Police said the financial pressure had caused him considerable stress, prompting him to take the extreme step.

Following the rescue, officers counselled Kumar and called his wife and brother-in-law to the police station before sending him home.
What Happened In The Maharashtra Case?
In the Maharashtra incident, initial reports suggested that an 18-year-old man was upset with his parents for not being able to pay the EMIs on an iPhone. However, as the investigation progressed, new details have emerged, including a video titled ' Relationships and Their Values' posted on the deceased's mother, Sangita Chandgude's, YouTube channel just a day before the tragedy.
