Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is completing the final phase of the 12-kilometre elevated stretch of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, with mobile tower installations and safety measures almost finished. The elevated section, though structurally complete since October 2024, has yet to open to traffic due to pending works in other sections of the expressway.
Officials from NHAI’s Dehradun Project Director’s office said the last phase of work is progressing rapidly. One of the key additions has been the installation of mobile towers to ensure uninterrupted network connectivity along the forest-surrounded stretch, particularly in the Mohand area, which earlier faced poor signal coverage.
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: Mobile Towers Installed To Ensure Network Connectivity
Project Director Pankaj Maurya said that 12 mobile towers have been set up along the elevated road to maintain strong mobile connectivity throughout. “Only a few formalities remain before the road is opened to the public. The aim is to ensure that travellers do not lose network coverage at any point on the elevated section,” he said.
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: Speed Cameras And Signboards Set Up For Safety
In addition to the towers, installation of automated speed-detection cameras and speed limit signboards has also been completed. These systems will monitor vehicle movement and enhance road safety once the expressway becomes operational.
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: Datkali Temple Flyover Construction In Final Stage
Meanwhile, construction of the rainbow-shaped flyover near the Datkali Temple is in its final stage. The flyover, which connects the Saharanpur-bound lane to the temple, was designed to address safety concerns for pilgrims. Once opened, it will allow visitors to access the temple without crossing the high-speed lanes of the expressway, reducing the risk of accidents.
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: Key Features
The 12-km elevated road, built at an estimated cost of Rs 1,500 crore, stands on 575 pillars and forms a crucial part of the Rs 11,970-crore Delhi-Dehradun Expressway project. Spanning 213 kilometres, the expressway is divided into 11 construction packages, managed by different project offices under NHAI.
The expressway will also include several key infrastructure features, five railway overbridges, 110 vehicular underpasses, 76 kilometres of service roads, 29 kilometres of elevated roads, and 16 entry and exit points.
