Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway has taken a major step forward with the opening of a 3.5-km stretch, improving connectivity between the two cities. A key highlight of the project is the first 18 km, from Akshardham Temple to Loni, which will remain toll-free, providing a seamless journey for commuters.

According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the 212-km expressway has been built at a cost of Rs 12,000 crore. Designed as a six-lane, access-controlled highway, it aims to reduce travel time and ease congestion.

Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: Project Overview

The expressway is being constructed in four sections, starting from the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Akshardham and passing through Shastri Park, Khajuri Khas and the EPE interchange at Khekra in Mandola, before extending to Baghpat, Shamli, Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh and finally reaching Dehradun in Uttarakhand.

Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: Daat Kali To Asharodi Segment Open

A crucial 3.5-km segment between Daat Kali and Asharodi is now operational. Earlier, only three lanes were in use, but with all six lanes open, travel between Delhi and Dehradun is set to become faster and smoother.

Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: Four- Phased Construction Plan

The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is being developed in four phases:

Phase 1: Begins at Akshardham Temple and extends to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) over roughly 32 km, featuring 12 lanes.

Phase 2: Runs from the EPE to the Saharanpur Bypass, covering about 118 km with six lanes and various interchanges.

Phase 3: Links the Saharanpur Bypass to Ganeshpur, spanning approximately 40 km.

Phase 4: Completes the route from Ganeshpur to Dehradun, covering around 20 km and incorporating structures designed to protect local wildlife.

Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: Infrastructure And Safety Features

The expressway includes modern infrastructure to enhance safety and ease traffic congestion. It features six lanes, seven underpasses, and two Railway Over Bridges (ROBs). Additionally, there are 54 junctions—17 major and 37 minor—to ensure smooth traffic movement.

To prioritise pedestrian safety, especially for students, foot-over bridges will be installed at various points. These crossings will allow safe passage without disrupting vehicular traffic. The expressway also features two elevated sections, each 200 metres long, designed to improve connectivity and reduce delays.
