Delhi Liquor Shops Closed:  The liquor shops in Delhi will remain closed for two days on the occasion of Independence Day and Janmashtami. The excise department, in line with Rule 52 of the Delhi Excise Rules, 2010, announced the complete closure of liquor shops, bars, pubs, restaurants, hotels, and clubs from August 15 (Friday) to August 16 (Saturday).

These closures came as part of the annual dry day calendar, which is in place to celebrate the annual national and religious occasions. Meanwhile, liquor shops in Delhi will also remain closed on October 2 to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Delhi Dry Days: Liquor Shops Closed On August 15 and 16

According to the order issued by the Excise Department, all retail liquor shops, bars, pubs, restaurants, hotels, and clubs will remain closed on August 15 for Independence Day and August 16 for Janmashtami. Under Rule 52 of the Delhi Excise Rules, these restrictions are imposed to maintain law and order, while showing respect to such national and religious events.

The police and excise officials will carry out inspections to ensure compliance with the restrictions and will punish violators with strict penalties. The department has advised residents to plan their liquor purchases ahead of time, as the restrictions will be imposed for 24 hours on both days.

Delhi Dry Days: THESE Liquor Shops To Remain Exempted

Though the ban is in place for all liquor shops, bars, pubs, restaurants, hotels, and clubs, high-end hotels are exempt from these restrictions. Star-classified hotels approved by the Union tourism department and holding L-15 or L-15F licences are exempted and can continue to serve liquor through room service. However, this privilege only applies to licensed hotels and not to other establishments.
