Delhi Fortuner Crash: Two cousins were burnt to death in a late-night accident in Rani Bagh, Outer Delhi, when their Fortuner SUV collided with a truck and caught fire. The incident occurred around 3 AM on Thursday, when the SUV rammed into the truck moving ahead.

The collision was so severe that the Fortuner SUV’s bonnet became trapped under the truck and was dragged for approximately 400-500 metres before catching fire, Delhi police sources said.

Both victims, Henry, 20, from Meera Bagh, and Dipanshu Chandela, 21, from Paschim Vihar, were trapped and burnt to death inside the SUV. The police received a call around 3:10 AM, following which a team from Rani Bagh Police was rushed to the scene.

Fire tenders were deployed to extinguish the fire, but the cousins had succumbed to death by the time the fire was brought under control. The families have identified the victims, whose bodies were subsequently sent for post-mortem before being handed back to them.

Following the accident, the truck driver was taken into custody. He told police that he was en route from Mundka to Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar when the Fortuner SUV rammed into his vehicle from behind.

Authorities have registered a case in connection with the accident and are investigating whether speeding or other factors played a role in the crash. They are awaiting mechanical inspection of the vehicles to establish the exact cause of the fatal crash.

Family Members Recall Moments Before Fatal Crash

A family member of the victims told NDTV that the cousins had left home around 2:30 AM to go to Murthal for dinner. Around 3 AM, the SUV collided with a truck and caught fire, leading to the death of the two cousins.

Henry, 20, was pursuing BBA in Pune. Tragically, his family had earlier lost his elder brother at a similar age. Henry’s father works in mobile tower installation, NDTV quoted a family member as saying.

Dipanshu Chandela, 21, also a BBA student in Rohini, was the son of a local property dealer. He was survived by his parents and a sister.
