The Delhi government aims to complete two key road infrastructure projects this year, flyovers that form part of double-decker viaducts along two upcoming Delhi Metro corridors. One flyover is being constructed between Bhajanpura and Yamuna Vihar on the Maujpur-Majlis Park line, while the other is coming up between Azadpur and the Rani Jhansi Road intersection on GT Road, as part of the RK Ashram Marg–Janakpuri West corridor.

According to senior officials, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Verma has recently reviewed both projects and issued clear directives to ensure their completion within the year.

According to the TOI report, officials said that the government is working on the Bhajanpura-Yamuna Vihar stretch, which will be the city’s first double-decker viaduct. The four-lane flyover is nearly complete, with only the connecting ramp pending construction due to a delay in tree-cutting permissions, a senior official said. The project is expected to be completed by July.

About Two Upcoming Delhi Metro Corridors

Announced by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in 2021 as a joint venture with the PWD, the structure is one of three double-decker viaducts being constructed under Delhi Metro’s Phase IV expansion. In these viaducts, metro trains will run on the upper deck, while motor vehicles will use the lower deck. A PWD official stated that a revised budget has been requested due to cost escalations and is expected to be approved shortly.

The second project the ministry has urged to expedite is the 2 plus 2 lane flyover from Azadpur to Tripolia Gate, spanning approximately 2.2 km, which aims to ease traffic congestion between central and north Delhi. This elevated road, part of the double-decker viaduct being constructed between Azadpur and the Rani Jhansi Road intersection, will increase road capacity and help resolve existing traffic issues.

Two New Delhi Metro Corridors Connectivity

Officials said the development will benefit residents of Derawal Nagar, Vijay Nagar, Rana Pratap Bagh, and neighboring localities along GT Road by reducing congestion. A fresh allocation of Rs 20 crore was made for the project earlier this year, with a deadline set for December 2025.

Officials also noted that both projects are located in congested areas, presenting several geographical challenges that must be addressed. The PWD minister, who is scheduled to inspect both sites soon, has requested a report detailing these challenges along with proposed solutions.
