The Lieutenant Governor in his directive asked all construction sites to continue to observe the 3-hour break until the temperature drops below 40 degrees Celsius. No employer will be allowed to deduct their salary in exchange for this break. Construction sites are also directed to provide sufficient amounts of water and coconut water to the labourers.
Delhi LG V K Saxena has further called an immediate meeting of officers of the PWD, DJB, I&FC, MCD, NDMC, Power department, and DUSIB to issue necessary directions for protecting the workers and supervisory staff from extreme heat conditions.
LG has also directed that earthen pots with drinking water should be arranged at bus queue shelters to provide relief to passengers, tankers with treated water of STPs should be deployed for sprinkling on the roads, along with activating water sprinklers installed at high-rise buildings and roads for tackling pollution and give people relief from the heatwave.
The order comes at a time when Delhi has recorded its all-time high temperature as the mercury touched 49.9 degrees celsius on Tuesday. Delhi is experiencing extreme heat waves with temperatures reaching above 45 degrees Celsius for the last two days.
