Delhi Hospital Firing: A 32-year-old patient, who was undergoing treatment for an abdominal infection at Delhi's GTB Enclave hospital, was shot dead on Sunday at nearly 4:20 PM. The deceased was identified as Riyazuddin, a resident of Khajuri Khas. His wife told ANI that her husband was shot dead as a result of a mistaken identity.

The incident also sparked a political row in the national capital, with Delhi Health Minister Surabh Bharadwaj taking a swipe at LG VK Saxena over the law and order situation in the national capital.

"LG sahab, in the last two years since you came to power, the law and order situation in Delhi is going from bad to worse. Criminals have lost all fear of the law. People barge into hospitals in broad daylight and shoot people. Sometimes a murder takes place inside Tihar Jail in front of the police and the police personnel just watch. Sometimes a lawyer is shot in front of the court. In Jangpura, an elderly person is brutally murdered by barging into his house in broad daylight," he wrote on X, citing other incidents.

"Murders in broad daylight in front of CCTV are now becoming a common thing in Delhi. The criminals are fearless. Delhi Police has been ruined due to its political use," said the AAP Minister.

Saurabh also cited NCRB data that says Delhi is the worst in terms of crime rate in the entire country at present. He also said that Delhi Police doesn't have enough officials, and most of them are busy with VIP security.

"The Delhi Police is severely understaffed, and a large proportion is busy with VIP security. According to data from NCRB, Delhi is the worst in terms of crime rate in the entire country at present — 1,832 crimes per 1 lakh population, out of total criminal cases registered. Only 30% cases are being charge-sheeted. What has LG saab done about law & order situation in Delhi?," added Bhardwaj.

Bharadwaj also said that a security review of all hospitals will be carried out and no negligence will be tolerated.
