Toll set to increase by 5 per cent from Monday on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway and the Gurugram-Sohna Expressways. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is gearing up to revise its toll tax rates, days after polls.

The new rates were to be implemented on April 1, but it was postponed. The increased toll has sparked widespread outrage. People concerned about the Kherki Daula toll plaza, in particular, believe the facilities should have been improved first. Every day during peak hours, there is a high traffic volume on both sides.

The toll plaza for the Delhi-Jaipur Highway is at Kherki Daula, while the one for the Gurugram-Sohna Highway is in front of the village of Ghamroj. On average, 80 thousand vehicles pass through the Kherki Daula toll plaza, while around 50 thousand vehicles pass through the Ghamroj toll plaza.

Most vehicles passing through both toll plazas are either local or from Delhi-NCR. As a result, citizens have consistently resisted toll fee increases. They are demonstrating again. The demand to remove the Kherki Daula toll plaza has been ongoing for years. People are outraged because, rather than being removed, toll rates are increasing year after year.

According to NHAI authorities, toll plaza rates are revised yearly, with increases or decreases based on changes in wholesale price index-based inflation.
