Kalkaji Restaurant Fire: A fire broke out at a famous restaurant in South Delhi’s Kalkaji area, near the Kalkaji–Govind Puri flyover in the early hours on Sunday. The massive blaze led to the explosion of three commercial LPG cylinders.

The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received a call reporting a blaze at the 'Punjabi Tadka' restaurant. The fire broke out at around 4.45 am on Sunday. No casualties have been reported. Meanwhile, firefighters rescued a 70–75-year-old woman safely.

"The fire was brought under control at around 5.40 am after sustained efforts by the firefighting teams. No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident," a DFS official said, as quoted by PTI. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Further investigation into the matter is underway.

This incident comes after a fire engulfed the five-storey building in Hauz Rani, a congested locality in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar on June 3. The devastating fire claimed 23 lives, including 14 foreign nationals, and left several others injured.

The collapse of a building in Saket's Saidulajab on May 30 and a fire in Malviya Nagar on June 3 could have been averted if MCD would have paid heed to the Supreme Court order.

According to a report by Jagran.com, due to collusion, political interference, illegal construction and commercial activities operating in violation of regulations could not be stopped.

In its order on March 25, the Supreme Court directed all the states, including Delhi, to identify all the commercial activities being carried out by misusing the property. Despite it the identification did not start. Although the paperwork for this has been completed.

On the order of the Supreme Court, the MCD Commissioner issued an order on April 20, directing all the zone deputy commissioners to conduct the survey within a week.
The goal was to identify all such properties which are operating commercial activities illegally.

However, the buzz of the survey caused protests in many areas. Public representatives began to face pressure. In East Delhi's New Ashok Nagar, the shutters of shops in residential areas were removed overnight and walls were built.
