The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its criticism of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after a leaked Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report surfaced, alleging significant lapses in Delhi’s excise policy. The report, which has not yet been officially released, has become a controversial issue ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections on February 5.

The report, alleges and outlines major lapses and violations under the leadership of former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh questioned the legitimacy of the leaked report, suggesting it might have been fabricated by the BJP. "Where is the CAG report? Do you have a copy? Is it made at the BJP office? The BJP is scared. They have become mentally unstable. We cannot respond to everything. On one hand, they are saying the CAG report has not been tabled, but on the other, they say it has been released. What do they mean? Singh asked, accusing the opposition of spreading misinformation to tarnish AAP’s image.

According to parts of the leaked report, the Delhi government’s Excise Policy allegedly caused a loss of over Rs 2,026 crore to the state. This includes Rs 890 crore due to the failure to re-tender surrendered liquor licenses and Rs 941 crore linked to exemptions granted to zonal licensees. The report also claims that approvals from the Lieutenant Governor (LG), the Cabinet, and the Assembly were bypassed. Additionally, it alleges that a Group of Ministers (GoM) led by Manish Sisodia ignored recommendations from an expert panel.

The BJP has seized on these allegations, accusing the Kejriwal-led AAP government of corruption and mismanagement. During a press conference, BJP leader Anurag Thakur launched a direct attack, stating, "If AAP’s policies were so effective, why are they on the defensive? The people of Delhi are frustrated with broken roads, polluted water, rising electricity bills, and garbage piling up across the city. They want freedom from this 'AAP-da' (disaster)."

Thakur went on to highlight the alleged excise scam, claiming, "Delhi’s liquor scam amounts to Rs 2,026 crore. AAP promised schools but opened liquor stores instead. They talked about clean governance but moved from 'swaraj' to 'sharab' (liquor). Their 10 years in power have been marked by scandal after scandal."

In response, AAP leaders have dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically motivated. AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal accused the BJP of dishonesty, saying, "The BJP has already accepted defeat and resorts to lies and manipulation instead of fair elections. They are creating distractions to hide their failures."

The Congress party has also weighed in on the controversy. Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav criticised the delay in officially presenting the CAG report in the Assembly, suggesting a possible deal between the BJP and AAP to suppress its findings. Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit called the excise policy a "clear scam" and accused the AAP government of draining public funds.
