Delhi-Meerut RRTS: Travel between Delhi and Meerut is about to get faster and easier as two much-awaited projects, the Namo Bharat trains and the Meerut Metro, prepare to begin operations. Together, they promise to cut journey time, reduce road congestion and offer passengers a modern, integrated travel experience.

Faster Travel, Shorter Journeys

Covering the 82-kilometre corridor between Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan and Meerut’s Modipuram will soon take just about 55 minutes, a major improvement over the long road trips commuters face today. For shorter trips, such as Delhi to Meerut South, travel time will shrink to nearly 30 minutes, as per a NDTV report.

Namo Bharat Service

The Namo Bharat, part of the Delhi–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), is designed as a semi-high-speed service running at speeds of up to 160 kmph. Trains will operate every 10 minutes, ensuring minimal waiting time. The service is expected to run from 6 AM to 10 PM on weekdays and Saturdays, and from 8 AM on Sundays. Travel across the full stretch will take under an hour.

Meerut Metro Connectivity

The Meerut Metro is being launched alongside Namo Bharat but is focused on city-level mobility. It will share a 23 km stretch of track with the RRTS and include 13 stations. This integration makes it India’s first corridor where intercity and urban metro trains run on the same tracks. Metro services will be available every 7 minutes, with easy transfers between both systems from the same platform — no separate tickets required.

Both services will be monitored from a centralised Operations Control Centre (OCC). Equipped with ETCS Level-2 technology, Automatic Train Protection (ATP) and Automatic Train Supervision (ATS), the system ensures smoother operations and enhanced passenger safety.

One Ticket, Two Services

Passengers will not need to purchase separate tickets when switching between Namo Bharat and the Meerut Metro. A single ticketing system will cover the journey across both networks. Official fare structures are expected to be announced shortly.

With final trials underway, both services are set to launch soon, marking a new chapter in public transport for Delhi and Meerut.
