Delhi Metro Golden Line: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has completed the construction of the second tunnel for the underground metro corridor on the Golden Line (Aerocity to Tughlakabad). The 1550 metre long tunnel is built from Kishangarh to Vasant Kunj on the Golden Line, which is under construction in Phase 4.

The second tunnel for the underground metro corridor was completed on Wednesday when a 96-metre-long Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) came out after completing the work.

On the successful completion of the tunnel, the Transport Minister, Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh, said, “Construction of this tunnel has further expanded the Delhi Metro network. Passengers will get better transport services due to the expansion of the Metro. Since the BJP government has come to power in Delhi, the work of Metro expansion is going on at a fast pace.”

Details About The Project

The total length of the Golden Line is 23.62 kilometres, out of which 19.34 kilometres will be underground and 4.28 kilometres will be elevated. According to the DMRC, the construction of this underground corridor will be completed by next year. A total of 40.109 km of underground corridor is being constructed in Phase 4 of the Delhi Metro.

For the construction of an underground corridor, two parallel tunnels will be constructed. Out of the two tunnels, the construction of the first tunnel was completed in March 2025. The construction of the second tunnel was completed on Wednesday.

In the construction of tunnels, the technology of the Earth Pressure Balancing Method was used. The second tunnel was constructed at a depth of 22.86 metres below the ground, and 1,105 rings have been installed in the tunnel.
