Jagran Correspondent, New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has begun construction on the ambitious Central Vista Corridor under Phase 5A. The project, estimated to cost Rs 12,000 crore, will provide easy access to government offices, the Supreme Court, the High Court, the Bharat Mandapam, and other important landmarks in central Delhi.

Work has begun on the first four stations and interchanges under the RK Ashram-Indraprastha corridor. This entire corridor is part of the Central Vista Corridor.

Main Characteristics

-Length: 9.9 kilometre

-Cost: Rs 9,570 crore

-Stations: 10 (mostly underground)

-A 1-km-long tunnel will be built between RK Ashram Marg and Shivaji Stadium.

-This will be an extension of the Magenta Line (Line 8)

-The entire corridor will be a driverless metro.

Major Stations To Come Up

-RK Ashram Marg

-Shivaji Stadium (Underground)

-Yuge Yugeen Bharat (Underground)

-Central Secretariat

-India Gate

-War Memorial (National War Memorial)

-High Court

-Baroda House

-Bharat Mandapam

-Indraprastha

The Yuge Yugeen Bharat station will be built near Parliament Street and the Rakabganj Gurdwara. The new Parliament building will be within walking distance.

4 Major Interchange Stations

The new corridor will create 4 major interchanges.

-Central Secretariat: Triple interchange of Yellow Line, Violet Line and Magenta Line will be built

-Moti Bagh: Connectivity to Pink Line

-RK Puram: Diversion from the main corridor of the Magenta Line

-Kishangarh: Interchange with Golden Line (Tughlakabad-Aerocity)

Other Corridors Of Phase-5A

Three corridors approved by the Cabinet in December

-RK Ashram – Indraprastha (9.9 km)

-Aerocity – IGI Terminal-1 (2.26 km, 1 station)

-Sarita Vihar Depot – Kalindi Kunj (3.9 km, 3 stations)

-Total cost: Rs 12,015 crore

-Total Stations: 13 (10 underground + 3 elevated)

Areas That Will Benefit

-Connectivity of Old Delhi, Central Delhi, West Delhi and North Delhi will be strengthened

-Direct metro facility to Prime Minister's Office, Central Secretariat, Supreme Court, Delhi High Court, Bharat Mandapam and government employees

-Traffic burden at Rajiv Chowk will be reduced.

-Ease of commuters on Noida-Vaishali (Blue Line) and Dwarka-West Delhi

-There will be significant relief from traffic jams in Central Delhi.

After this project, the Magenta Line will become the longest line of Delhi Metro by being 88.4 kilometre long.
