Delhi Metro Update: Airport Commute From Faridabad To Get Faster As DMRC Announces To Open 3 New Corridors By December

Jagran Correspondent, New Delhi: In a bid to enhance connectivity between Delhi and neighbouring National Capital Region (NCR) cities, expansion work on the Delhi Metro network is progressing rapidly.

According to a report by Jagran.com, three new metro corridors are expected to become operational by the end of this year, significantly reducing travel times and improving connectivity across the region.

Three New Corridors To Add 41 Km To Delhi Metro

The upcoming expansion will add approximately 41 kilometres to the Delhi Metro network. This includes two sections of the Magenta Line's Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg extension, from Krishna Park Extension to Deepali Chowk and Majlis Park to RK Ashram Marg.

Additionally, the expansion features the much-awaited Golden Line corridor from Aerocity to Tughlakabad.

A Timeline

The Union Cabinet on March 7, 2019, approved three corridors: the Majlis Park-Maujpur (Pink Line), the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg (Magenta Line), and the Aerocity-Tughlakabad (Golden Line) under the fourth phase of the Metro.

Then, on March 13, the Union Cabinet approved two additional corridors: Lajpat Nagar-Saket G-Block (Golden Line) and Indralok-Indraprastha (earlier Green Line, now included in Magenta Line) under the fourth phase.

Construction Gains Momentum

After receiving approval from the central government, work on the fourth phase of the Delhi Metro was delayed due to pending clearances from the Delhi government and the COVID-19 pandemic. However, construction has now picked up pace.

Magenta Line To Open By End Of 2026

Construction on the two sections of the Magenta Line from Krishna Park to Deepali Chowk and Majlis Park to RK Ashram Marg is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Once operational, this corridor will improve metro connectivity between East and West Delhi, as well as with other parts of the region.

Additionally, the Golden Line's Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor is scheduled to be open by the end of this year. This new route will provide more direct access to airport commuters travelling from Faridabad and South Delhi.

The corridor, which opened on March 8, includes:

- Pink Line (Majlis Park-Maujpur Babarpur): 12.318 km

- Magenta Line (Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park): 9.92 km

The remaining corridors currently under construction under Phase IV include:

Magenta Line (Krishna Park Extension to Deepali Chowk and Majlis Park to RK Ashram Road)

- Distance: 17.528 km

- Stations: 14

Golden Line (Delhi Aerocity-Tughlakabad)

- Distance: 23.622 km

- Stations: 15
