Delhi News: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has launched a detailed road maintenance plan to improve the condition of 78 out of 110 avenue roads of Lutyens’ Delhi. These include roads such as Gole Market to Panchkuian Road, Baba Khadak Singh Marg, Sansad Marg, Tansen Marg, and several others in the area. New bitumen carpeting will be done on all these 78 roads, jagran.com reported. This decision has been taken by NDMC on the basis of the interim report of the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), in which it had surveyed the defects seen on the roads and roundabouts. Now a decision will be taken after the CRRI surveys the remaining 32 roads as well.

"We identified road deficits, roughness and health based on the pavement condition index and our report has suggested rehabilitation and surface treatment as specified in Indian Road Congress guidelines. We emphasised the necessity of milling (removing the top asphalt layer) on all roads before treatment to avoid raising road levels and causing waterlogging of neighbouring areas," said Sunil Jain, chief scientist, CRRI.

CRRI has suggested reducing the thickness of the road to 150-160 mm and applying a 40 mm bitumen-concrete layer on it. The official also said that in the Connaught Place division, Connaught Place Outer Circle, Janpath, KG Marg, Sansad Marg, Panchkuiniya Road, Baba Kharg Singh Marg were also surveyed.

These Suggestions Have Been Given

-Outer Circle, Connaught Place: Deep cracks were found on the road here. CRRI will have to remove 50-60 mm concrete from the road and do 50 mm stone matrix asphalt treatment.

-Panchkuiniya Road: CRRI has to remove 90 mm concrete from the road and lay 50 mm bitumen and 40 mm bitumen and concrete layer.

-Atul Grover Marg: Here 50 mm concrete is to be removed from the road and a layer of 40 mm bitumen and concrete is to be laid.

-Jaisingh Marg: This road was found fine, the agency has asked to put 4 to 6 mm bitumen layer on this road.
