SC to hear plea on Delhi pollution

The Supreme Court will hear a petition today demanding the implementation of measures to curb air pollution in Delhi. According to the list of cases uploaded on the Supreme Court's website on November 18, a bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih will hear the petition. On November 14, the Supreme Court had agreed to list the petition for an immediate hearing.

The court was informed that due to rising pollution levels, Delhi should not become the most polluted city in the world. Senior advocate Aparajita Singh, who is assisting the court as an amicus curiae in this case, had requested an urgent hearing in view of the current situation in Delhi. She informed the bench that she had already notified the Commission for Air Quality Management and that it should be made to report on the steps being taken to tackle the pollution.
