Delhi Rain Today: Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning struck Delhi and parts of the National Capital Region (NCR) on Wednesday evening, leading to severe waterlogging and major traffic jams across the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert later in the day, urging residents to remain cautious.
Delhi Rain: Major Roads Affected, Traffic Movement Disrupted
The rain, which began suddenly in the evening hours, caused flooding on several major roads, making it difficult for commuters and pedestrians. Key areas like BD Marg, GRG Road and Lodhi Road were among the worst affected, with visuals showing vehicles struggling to move through submerged roads.

Delhi Weather: IMD Upgrades Alert From Orange To Red
Earlier in the day, no alert had been issued for the city. However, by the afternoon, the IMD released an orange alert, which was later upgraded to red in the evening as rainfall intensified. According to the IMD, moderate to intense rain along with thunderstorms and lightning is expected to continue across Delhi and NCR.
Delhi Rain Today: Key Waterlogged Areas
Several parts of the city reported waterlogging, including Nehru Place, Kailash Colony, Siri Fort Road, Chirag Delhi flyover, Lajpat Nagar, Outer Ring Road, G K Marg, Akshardham, Ashram, Pul Prahladpur, ITO, M G Road, and National Highway 8. These disruptions led to long traffic delays and affected daily movement.

Delhi Weather: Najafgarh Records Highest Rainfall In the City
Rainfall data recorded between 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM showed Najafgarh received the highest amount of rain at 60 mm, followed by Aya Nagar with 50.5 mm, Pragati Maidan with 37 mm, Pusa with 30 mm, and North Campus with 22 mm. In contrast, areas like Lodhi Road and Safdarjung, which is the city’s primary weather station, recorded only 1.5 mm and 1.4 mm respectively.

Delhi Weather Forecast: Thunderstorms Likely to Continue Through Night
The IMD forecast said Delhi would continue to witness moderate showers with thunderstorms through the evening and possibly overnight. The maximum temperature is expected to settle around 35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is likely to remain near 24 degrees Celsius.

Weather Update: Showers Extend To Neighbouring Haryana And UP
Neighbouring districts in Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh are also expected to receive rainfall. Areas such as Rohtak, Sonipat, Panipat, Rewari, Bhiwani, Narnaul, and Charkhi Dadri in Haryana, along with Bagpat, Meerut, Modinagar, Hapur, Bulandshahar and Bijnaur in UP, are likely to see moderate showers, according to the regional weather centre.

Cloud Movement To Trigger More Downpour
An eastward-moving cloud cluster is expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall in isolated areas. The IMD has also warned of strong winds with speeds ranging between 30 to 40 km/h, gusting up to 50 km/h. Light to moderate rain was reported from the eastern parts of the city during the early phase of the downpour.
Delhi: Rain Forecast Continues For Next 24 Hours
For Thursday, the weather office has predicted continued moderate rainfall across Delhi-NCR. The orange alert will remain in place for the next 24 hours and residents have been asked to stay updated with official advisories and avoid low-lying or flooded zones while stepping out.
