A horrifying double murder has shaken Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar after a garment shop employee allegedly killed his employer’s wife and teenage son in a fit of rage. “I never scolded him over anything. I was always polite. Then why…?” said Kuldeep Sewani, devastated after losing his wife Ruchika (42) and son Krish (14) at the hands of a trusted worker. The accused, 24-year-old Mukesh, was arrested while trying to flee on a train to Bihar just hours after the incident.

According to police, the gruesome killings took place on Wednesday evening inside the Sewanis' home. The victims were found with multiple injuries. Mukesh, who worked at Kuldeep Sewani’s clothing store in Central Market, allegedly held a grudge after being reprimanded by Ruchika for his repeated absenteeism. Enraged, he reportedly plotted the attack in retaliation.

On Thursday afternoon, Kuldeep was seen outside the mortuary at AIIMS Trauma Centre, struggling to hold back tears as he signed the necessary documents. Speaking to his relatives, he kept repeating in disbelief, “I never scolded him… Then why?”

Ketan, Kuldeep’s cousin, recalled the moment he was alerted. “At around 9.30 pm, I got a frantic call saying there is blood inside the house and no one is opening the door.” He rushed to the residence and entered with police assistance.

Kuldeep’s relatives shared that Mukesh previously worked at Ketan’s store before joining Kuldeep’s. His behaviour had recently become erratic. Surender, a colleague, noted: “Last month, he took a four-day holiday, claiming he was getting engaged. But he didn’t return for nearly 25 days. Soon after returning, he again went on leave, only to come back eight days ago.”

Another employee, Badrul Hassan, said, “Kaun sa boss apne employee ko nai daant ta (Which employer doesn’t scold his staff)? How can that lead to this (murder)?”

The family was well-regarded in the locality, neighbours said. Vishal Chopra shared how his son spotted the bloodstains. “My son… said there was blood on the stairs of his house. I rushed home.”

Arnav, Vishal’s 22-year-old son, added that Kuldeep had earlier tried to call Ruchika but got no response. He even sent another employee to check. When no one answered, he climbed atop a parked car and spotted blood through a window.

Police have registered a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and are continuing their investigation.
