A Delhi grocery shopkeeper in Vijay Nagar was allegedly assaulted by locals after a 15-year-old boy filed a complaint claiming the shop was selling suspected cow meat. The incident came to light after a PCR call was received reporting the sale of suspected cow meat at a shop in Vijay Nagar Double Storey, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Model Town Police Station, officials said.

The complainant, identified as 15-year-old Simar, a resident of Vijay Nagar, alleged that he had purchased meat from the shop at Rs 400 per kilogram and suspected it to be cow meat.

The shop is owned by 44-year-old Chaman Kumar, son of Mukund Prasad and a resident of Kaushik Enclave, Burari.

Following the spread of the allegation, members of the public allegedly manhandled the shopkeeper, according to police.

Police confirmed that the victim has received medical assistance and that his medical examination is currently in progress.

After the investigation, police stated that meat samples were seized from the shop and sent for forensic analysis to determine whether it was of cow origin. Additionally, police teams collected and reviewed CCTV footage from the area to verify the sequence of events and identify those involved in the assault.

Authorities confirmed that the situation is now under control and no further incidents of violence have been reported since the initial episode.

"Once the forensic report and full enquiry are complete, appropriate legal action will be taken as per the findings and provisions of law," the statement added.
