Delhi Double-decker bus service: Delhi's wait for double-decker buses is finally to get over soon as the first such bus has arrived in the national capital after a gap of 35 years.
Earlier, the double-decker buses used to run on the Delhi roads till 1989. Back then, they were called 'Suvidha Bus'. They used to run on diesel, while the new buses will be entirely electric and air-conditioned.
As part of the plans, the first electric double-decker bus has arrived in the national capital and is parked at Okhla Depot.
The Delhi Transport Corporation will conduct the trial run on selected routes very soon. After the trial is successful, the fleet will be expanded.
The DTC will cautiously select the routes for the trial run. Delhi Transport Minister on Friday said that the government is working on the plan. The route will be selected keeping in mind that there are no obstacles like trees, electric wires and flyovers.
100 busses planned
According to a report by Jagran.com, a total of 1,500 electric buses, including 100 double-decker ones, are to be provided to Delhi through Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL).
The electric double-decker buses have a higher passenger capacity. Compared to normal buses, this bus has a seating arrangement for 63 passengers.
There are stairs to go from the normal floor to the second floor. The height of these buses is 4.75 meters, and this bus is 9.8 meters long. There is a plan to run these buses in orange colour. The cluster service buses in Delhi have been running in orange colour since the time of the previous government.
