Delhi Weather: Multiple spells of rain controlled the temperature in the national capital made it the coolest August in the last 11 years. The city has been witnessing continuous rain over the past few days and the trend is likely to continue in the coming days as well. The city recorded a mean maximum temperature of 34.2 degrees Celsius this month. Before this, it recorded a lower mean maximum temperature of 33.6 degrees Celsius in August 2013, reported Times of India. Furthermore, the mean minimum temperature in the nights was 25.7 degrees Celsius, the lowest in at least 14 years, the report added.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), on Saturday, the city is likely to witness a partly cloudy sky which is expected to change into thundershowers in 2-3 days. The minimum and maximum temperature will most likely hover between 25 degrees Celsius and 35 degrees Celsius.

Delhi's Wettest August In 14 Years

With an average rainfall of 390.3 mm, Delhi saw its wettest August in the past 14 years against a monthly average of 233.1 mm. In Aug 2010, the city got 455.1 mm of rainfall, TOI reported. IMD's Safdarjung station has seen 26 rainy days out of the 30 days of August.

A Met official said: "The monsoon trough mostly stayed close to Delhi-NCR, leading to rain on most days of the month. Rain and cloudiness on most days prevented the day temperature from rising further." Another official added that on many days, rain lashed the city in the night or early morning, which kept the temperature in check.

Delhi saw a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius on Friday which was 6.2 degrees higher than Thursday's maximum, when the heavy rain brought the city on its knees. The minimum temperature was 24 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal.

An official said that rain is unlikely during the weekend, but a yellow alert has been issued for light to moderate showers for Monday and Tuesday.
