Delhi Weather News: Thunderstorm with heavy rains on Tuesday lashed parts of Delhi-NCR, significantly bringing the temperatures down in Delhi, Noida and Gurugram. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) earlier in the day issued a red alert for Delhi-NCR, predicting thunderstorms accompanied by hail, moderate to heavy rainfall and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-70 kilometres per hour at isolated places.

As per the weather forecast, there is a 30 per cent chance of heavy rain in the national capital at around 10 pm, while the minimum temperature is expected to reach 27 degrees by midnight.

Delhi-NCR, along with several north Indian states including Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, are reeling under severe heatwave conditions. The maximum temperature in Delhi reached 45 degrees Celsius last week, while the "real feel" touched 49 degrees Celsius.

The IMD also issued a safety warning for the public, highlighting potential impacts of the thunderstorm and heavy rains. In its advisory, the IMD said that intense lightning may pose a risk to life, especially in open areas. Traffic disruptions are likely, and flight or train services may face delays. There is also a risk to livestock and people working outdoors, the advisory said.

Delhi Weather: IMD Safety Advisory

- Residents are advised to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.

- Electrical appliances should be unplugged to prevent damage from lightning surges.

- People have been cautioned against taking shelter under trees or metal structures and using mobile phones outdoors during lightning activity.

- Farmers and outdoor workers should immediately suspend work and seek shelter.

Delhi Weather Updates

Delhi on Monday witnessed slight relief from scorching summer conditions as the temperature dipped below normal levels. The maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 35 degrees Celsius on Monday, which is 3.8 degrees Celsius below normal. The IMD has also ruled out heat wave conditions for the next week.

The regional forecast indicates partly to generally cloudy skies over the coming days with similar weather patterns persisting across the NCR, including Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad. The maximum temperatures are predicted to remain between 33 degrees Celsius to 39 degrees Celsius till June 22, suggesting continued respite from intense summer heat.
