The national capital, Delhi, is grappling with severe weather conditions, including a cold wave that swept across the city on Sunday morning. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature in Delhi dropped to 10°C at 5:30 am, slightly lower than the previous day's reading of 10.2°C.

In addition to the biting cold, dense fog has disrupted both train and flight operations, significantly reducing visibility to near zero in several areas. Over 139 flights were delayed and six were cancelled due to poor visibility. Flights that are not compliant with CAT III regulations faced delays or cancellations.

“While landings and take-offs continue at Delhi Airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may get affected. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted," Delhi Airport said in an advisory posted on X.

On Saturday, Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) witnessed 19 flight diversions, numerous cancellations and over 400 delays as dense fog reduced visibility and disrupted operations for the second consecutive day.

Additionally, several trains, such as the Howrah-New Delhi Duronto Express, Mahabodhi Express, Lucknow Mail and Kathgodam Express, were significantly delayed upon reaching the national capital due to the ongoing adverse weather conditions.

Delhi Weather Update

Delhi remained covered in a thick blanket of fog on Saturday morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for Sunday, indicating similar weather conditions.

According to the weather department, dense fog is expected to persist in most parts of Delhi on Sunday morning, with some areas experiencing very dense fog. Due to the activation of a Western Disturbance, the sky may remain partially cloudy during the day. This could result in a maximum temperature of 18°C and a minimum temperature of 10°C.

On Monday morning, there is a possibility of light rain accompanied by thunder. Following that, by Tuesday, a cold breeze blowing at a speed of 10 to 20 kilometres per hour from the northwest could cause the temperature to drop further, leading to an increase in the cold.
