Weather Update: Several of the northern states are facing the issue of dense fog and cold wave over the past few days. Due to dense fog in the early hours of the day, the visibility in these states has significantly reduced. Several of the trains and flights operating in these states were delayed. There is also a significant dip in temperature in the northern states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab.
Earlier on Saturday, almost 400 flights operating from IGI airport in Delhi were delayed as the capital city was covered by the dense fog in the early hours of the day. Almost 19 flights were diverted at the IGI airport between 12.15 am and 1.30 am due to reduced visibility, NDTV reported, citing sources. More than 45 flights were cancelled due to bad weather conditions at Delhi as well as at the destination airports, the official said.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that dense fog will continue in the northern states on Sunday too. The weather department has also issued a yellow alert for dense fog in Bihar. Several of the districts, including Darbhanga, Samastipur, Sitamarhi, and Muzaffarpur, faced a dip in temperature and reduced visibility due to the dense fog, especially in the early hours of the day. Several of the flights also got delayed in Dehradun and Chandigarh. The airport authorities in these cities urged the passengers to stay updated. While the regions like Rohtang and Shikunja witnessed heavy snowfall, Shimla is facing record-breaking heat this season.

Besides, Bengaluru is experiencing record-breaking cold on Saturday and Sunday. The advisory from IMD stated that the cold wave in most of the northern states has resulted in a significant dip in Bengaluru. The weather department further predicted that the residents of Bengaluru will experience a lowest minimum temperature of almost 10.2 degrees Celsius in comparison to the average minimum temperature of 15.8 degrees Celsius in the month of January.
