In a strict and significant decision on photo and videography at Indian airports, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed restrictions on photos and videos at several airports due to security concerns. The directive issued by DGCA will be applicable to those aircraft landing on or taking off from army airports, Jagran.com reported.

Window Shades To Remain Down During Takeoffs, Landings: DGCA

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a directive requiring passengers on flights operating from sensitive airbases near India's western border, including Amritsar, Jammu, Srinagar, and Jaisalmer airports, to keep their window shades down during takeoff and landing

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has announced that the rule requiring passengers to keep window shades down during takeoff and landing at sensitive airports along India's western border will remain in effect until the aircraft reaches an altitude of 10,000 feet or touches down on the ground. The DGCA has taken this step keeping national security in mind.

Photos and videos Banned On Sensitive Airbases

In recent years, it has been observed that passengers on flights operating from these sensitive airbases often take photos or videos of the outside view during takeoff or landing and share them on social media. These visuals sometimes capture sensitive information, such as military activities, airbase layouts, and other critical areas, posing a risk to national security.

To mitigate this risk, the DGCA has mandated that window shades be kept down during these critical phases of flight. The directive explicitly states that passengers will not be allowed to take photos or videos on military airbases. Strict legal action will be taken against anyone found violating this rule, the report added.

Special Training Required for Airlines’ Crew

Airlines will need to modify their routine procedures to ensure compliance. They will be required to ensure that all window shades are down during takeoff and landing. Airlines will provide special training to their ground staff and cabin crew. Passengers will be informed about this rule through notice boards or screens at boarding gates and inside the aircraft.

Some airlines have already begun implementing these measures, including adding security rules to pre-flight announcements. The DGCA's directive aims to prevent the leakage of sensitive information and ensure national security.
