Dhanbad Gas Leak: A child reportedly died, and at least 12 others got sickened due to a gas leak in Dhanbad's Kendua region district on Wednesday. The officials stated that the incident occurred in the BCCL coal project area, adding that the gas leak has caused panic among the locals. They further stated that the patients have been admitted to a local hospital where they are being treated. While the BCCL has not provided the exact reason behind the incident, several reports suggest that the gas leaked due to a fire incident on Tuesday.

While providing details, the officials stated that more than ten ambulances have been deployed in the region after receiving the complaints. The gas reportedly leaked behind the Kenduadih police station and has affected the residents of several regions, including Rajput Basti, Masjid Mohalla, and Number 5 Mohalla. The officials have advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outdoor activities.

The locals claimed that they witnessed a thick layer of fog in the morning hours, adding that the gas led to several issues such as lowered visibility and breath-related problems, reported Jagran.Com. They further stated that while several children fainted, some of the birds died due to the gas. They asserted that several people complained of vomiting and headaches after being affected by the poisonous gas.

Tushar Kant, BCCL's Kusunda Area Safety Officer, stated that the gas is likely to affect the residents of multiple regions. Apart from this, Dhanbad MLA Raj Sinha also arrived at the spot and visited the affected area. He further assured that all the necessary steps are being taken to control the leakage.The BCCL management has issued a notice to the residents of these regions to immediately vacate the area.
