The Excise Department of the Delhi government has issued a complete ban order for the sale of liquor in the national capital on the auspicious festival of Diwali on October 20.
The excise department has said that no liquor shops will be allowed to operate on Diwali.
This decision was taken to maintain peace and keep law and order intact during the festival. The department has directed all liquor vendors to enforce the order strictly.
The Delhi government has also warned the violators of strict action. All licensed liquor shops and outlets, including government and private license holders, will be prohibited under the order. Moreover, the hotels and restaurants will also be barred from serving liquor to customers.

The decision aligns with the tradition of prohibiting the sale of alcohol during festivals each year to maintain a peaceful atmosphere.
The government has also urged citizens to respect this rule. Diwali festivities started with Dhanteras on Saturday and will continue till Thursday, October 23. However, the sale of liquor has also been banned on the day of Diwali.
On rest of the days, the shops will open as usual. The Excise Department has intensified monitoring to ensure compliance with the orders. Officials have also warned that consuming alcohol in public places or near liquor shops could attract fines or legal action.

Earlier this month, the Delhi government had ordered a liqour ban in the national capital on October 2, on the ocasion of Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra.
