Karnataka has been making headlines for several other reasons the Bengaluru bike taxi ban recently. Reports suggest that all is not going well in the government, as CM Siddaramaiah recently visited New Delhi to meet the Congress high command amid allegations of corruption in the Home department from inside the government.
A statement by Congress MLA H A Iqbal Hussain indicated that Deputy CM DK Shivakumar can overtake CM Siddaramaiah in the State within the next few months, news agency PTI reported. The development strengthens the speculations of a rift between Congress leaders.
Hussain made the remarks in Ramanagara, sparking renewed chatter about a potential leadership shift in the state. He is known for his close ties with Shivakumar.
While speaking to the press, Hussain’s statement focused on Shivakumar’s critical role in making Congress win the state in 2023 and that Shivakumar is a potential replacement for CM Siddaramaiah. “Yes, I’m saying it. The date some leaders are hinting at for revolutionary political developments after September — this is what they are talking about. A decision will be made within two to three months. That's what I'm saying. I’m not beating around the bush; I’m speaking directly," he said, as quoted by PTI.
When he was confronted with a question that CM Siddaramaiah’s son calls speculations baseless, Hussain replied, “We were all together in Delhi then. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge made the decision. Everyone knows that. They will take the next decision too — we’ll have to wait and watch.”
