Doda's bus accident jolted the nation into a shock on Wednesday with the death toll at 36 and at least 19 injured, families of the deceased grapple with the tragedy that unfolded in Jammu and Kashmir's highway. The accident took place when the bus carrying as many as 55 passengers veered off the road and tumbled down a steep slope falling into a gorge near Trungal in the Assar area.

The bus was on its way from Kishtwar to Jammu. Doda District Commissioner Harvinder Singh has said that the injured are being shifted to Government Medical College Doda.

An ANI video shows the injured being airlifted to Jammu by the district administration. 

A drone footage from the accident site shows an ariel view of the valley where people can be seen gathered in large numbers near the Assar region where rescue operations are still underway.

Videos of the dead bodies strewn on the side of the road where the bus had fallen were also circulated on social media.

All possible help, as required being provided. I am in constant touch," Harvinder Singh said.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the deaths in the Doda bus accident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the PM's National Relief Fund to the next of kin of each of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured.

"The bus accident in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir is distressing. My condolences to the families who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest," the Prime Minister's Office posted on 'X'.
