The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday forecast heavy rainfall over several pockets of Odisha and also along the coast in view of the low-pressure formation in the area of the Bay of Bengal which is likely to intensify into a severe cyclone.
The low-pressure area over the Southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining Andaman-Nicobar Islands is predicted to move northwards and may intensify into a Deep Depression over West Central Bay of Bengal off the Andhra Pradesh coast on November 16. Subsequently, it would recurve north-northeastwards and reach the Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast on November 17.
The weather department has also issued a warning for fishermen along and off the Andhra Pradesh coast. Due to a low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to intensify into a depression in the west-central Bay of Bengal, wind speeds are predicted to increase from Wednesday onwards.

It will move in west Northwest direction and it will further intensify into a deep depression on 16th Nov over the west-central Bay of Bengal adjoining the Andhra Pradesh coast. We are expecting afterward it will recurve and move along the north-northeastward direction towards the Northwest Bay of Bengal adjoining Odisha coast. Due to this system, we are expecting heavy to very heavy rainfall activity over some parts of Odisha, coastal Odisha," Senior Scientist of IMD Bhubaneswar Uma Shankar Das told news agency ANI.
The winds are expected to prevail for the next two days, November 15 and 16. "Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea from Wednesday onwards," IMD Visakhapatnam's MD Sunanda told ANI on Tuesday.
