Durgapur Gangrape: The Durgapur gangrape case took a new turn on Wednesday evening when the victim’s father apologised to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, two days after comparing her rule to that of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

“Mamata Banerjee is like a mother-like figure to me. If I have said anything wrong, I ask her to forgive me. I will render countless obeisances at her feet. But I ask her to help my daughter get justice,” news agency PTI quoted the victim’s father as saying.

Durgapur Rape Victim’s Father Calls Mamata Banerjee A “Mother-Like Figure”

Two days before, the victim’s father angrily responded to Mamata Banerjee's remark, raising questions about why the student was out “late at night”.

“It seems Bengal is under the rule of Aurangzeb. I want to take my daughter back to Odisha. Her life comes first, career later,” he said. He also called for an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The victim’s father's latest remarks come as the police highlighted inconsistencies in the second-year MBBS student’s account of events. According to the victim, she was gangraped by several men after being dragged to a forest area when she had gone outside her private medical college campus to have dinner with a male friend around 8 PM on October 10.
