The Election Commission of India on Wednesday announced the schedule for bye-election to four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir. Voting and counting for these will be held on October 24. All four seats have been vacant since February 2021 after the terms of Ghulam Nabi Azad, Shamsher Singh Manhas, Fayaz Ahmad Mir and Nazir Ahmad Laway ended.ecieci2

The bye-elections could not be held earlier as Jammu and Kashmir was under President's rule until October 2024. Jammu and Kashmir was excluded when the Election Commission held Rajya Sabha polls for six other seats in late 2024.

Jammu and Kashmir saw the last Rajya Sabha elections in February 2015. Back then, BJP-PDP alliance bagged three seats while the NC-Congress alliance got just one.

As per the ECI's schedule. the bye-election for one Rajya Sabha seat from Punjab will also be held on October 24. This seat was left vacant after the resignation of Member of Parliament (MP) Sanjeev Arora in July, 2025.
