A sudden commotion broke out at former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi’s official residence at 10 Circular Road in Patna after a large police team arrived at the premises on Saturday. According to reports, Secretariat SDPO Anu Kumari was leading the police contingent and also entered the residence to assess the situation.

The heavy police presence triggered speculation in political circles, with many linking the development to the ongoing dispute over the government bungalow. However, no official statement was immediately issued by the administration regarding the purpose of the police deployment.

Development Comes Amid Eviction Row

The development comes amid an escalating row over the eviction notice issued to Rabri Devi by the Bihar government, directing her to vacate the 10 Circular Road residence, which has now been allotted to Animal Husbandry Minister Nand Kishore Ram.

Recently, after returning to Patna, Rabri Devi had openly declared that she would not vacate the bungalow voluntarily. Taking the name of Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, she said that if the government wanted the residence vacated, it could send a force to remove her from the premises. Her remarks intensified the political confrontation surrounding the residence issue.

Rabri Devi Challenges Order

"Yes, I can see that Samrat Choudhary, who has become the chief minister only recently, is quite excited. Let him get me evicted by force. I am not going to vacate the premises", said Rabri Devi, wife of RJD president Lalu Prasad.

Reacting to Rabri Devi’s statement, JD(U) chief spokesperson and MLC Neeraj Kumar said, "Are you trying to justify your own standards? The residence that we have got today is such a big house that we do not even have in our village, nor even in our city. Today, he (Lalu Yadav) has bighas of land. He can live wherever he wants; all facilities have been provided to you, and still you are so upset." 

The Building Construction Department had issued a third notice for Rabri Devi to immediately vacate the bungalow. The department argued that the building is already allotted to Minister Nand Kishore Ram and should be handed over to him according to government rules. 

It has been further stated that several notices were issued earlier, and the residence was not vacated. Government sources maintained that Rabri Devi is already allotted an alternative government quarter in 39 Harding Road in her capacity as Leader of Opposition, Bihar Legislative Council, and all procedures have been completed. It has been communicated repeatedly that she needs to vacate the residence.

However, the bungalow on 10 Circular Road has remained the political centre of RJD and the Lalu Prasad Yadav family for almost two decades. Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family has been residing in the house since 2005. The house has been the venue for major political meetings and activities of the RJD for the last few years.

The authorities said that several reminders have been given to Lalu Prasad Yadav to vacate the residence for the last few months, but they have failed to vacate the building till now. 

The intensified administrative action and deployment of police personnel around the bungalow have once again heated political discourse in Bihar. Lalu Prasad Yadav is at present in Singapore on account of a medical check-up.
