A 17-year-old national-level athlete has accused her coach of sexually assaulting her at a hotel in Faridabad. The athlete claimed that the incident occurred last month at a Faridabad hotel after the coach asked her to meet privately on the pretext of reviewing her performance.

The police have lodged a first information report (FIR) based on a complaint from the girl’s mother, as reported by the Hindustan Times. Currently, the police are securing the CCTV footage of the hotel and recording the statements of witnesses connected to the case.

What Does The FIR State?

The FIR states that the alleged incident occurred on December 16, following her participation in a national-level shooting competition at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Ranges in Tughlakabad, South Delhi.

The FIR further states that the coach allegedly asked her to meet him at the lobby of Surajkund hotel located in Faridabad, where he was staying, to analyse her performance. The coach then insisted that she come to his private room to hold a more focused discussion. Inside the hotel room, the coach sexually assaulted her. He reportedly followed the assault with threats to sabotage her professional career and endanger her family members should she reveal the incident.

The FIR also gave reference to a separate incident in December when the coach allegedly entered a facility in Mohali where women shooters were staying.

Case Lodged Against The Coach

A case was registered against the coach under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on Tuesday, as the victim was a minor when the offence was committed.

Senior police officials said that dedicated teams have been assigned to collect electronic and forensic evidences including hotel CCTV footage, call records, and travel details. Authorities said that they will also record statements from hotel staff and other potential witnesses who were present that day.
