Fauja Singh Death News: The Punjab Police arrested a 26-year-old man identified as NRI driver Amritpal Singh Dhillon after 114-year-old marathon runner Fauja Singh was killed in a hit-and-run accident on the Jalandhar-Pathankot highway on Monday. Dhillon was caught from his village. The police earlier identified and seized the vehicle allegedly involved in the incident - a Punjab-registered Toyota Fortuner.
The incident occurred on Monday around 3 pm, when Fauja Singh, known as Turbaned Tornado, stepped out for a walk after lunch. While he was walking alone towards the highway, a speeding vehicle hit him. He was immediately rushed to Shriman Hospital, but died during treatment at 7 pm, police said. According to villagers, Singh was tossed 5-7 feet in the air after being hit by the vehicle.
Who Is Amritpal Singh Dhillon
-Amritpal Singh Dhillon belongs to Dasupur village of Kartarpura sub-division in Jalandhar district.
-Amritpal Singh Dhillon came from Canada eight days ago and recently purchased a white Toyota Fortuner from a Kapurthala resident, officials said as per Hindustan Times.
-As per news agency PTI, Amritpal Singh Dhillon, was going from Bhogpur to Kishahgarh when he hit Fauja Singh.
-Amritpal Singh Dhillon has admitted to the crime and said he was returning home after selling his mobile phone, as per NDTV. The accused did not know about Fauja Singh and came to know about him through the news.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X to pay tribute to Fauja Singh and said, “Fauja Singh Ji was extraordinary because of his unique persona and the manner in which he inspired the youth of India on a very important topic of fitness. He was an exceptional athlete with incredible determination. Pained by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and countless admirers around the world.”
