Bus Fare Surge: With Diwali and Chhath around the corner, like all other things, the travelling cost has witnessed a dramatic surge by multiple fold. Travelling from Noida to Kanpur and Lucknow has become significantly more expensive than usual.

Normally, sleeper bus tickets would cost between Rs 700 to Rs 800, but this time, due to Diwali, Govardhan Puja, and Bhaiya Dooj, prices have surged four to five times, crossing Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000.

With trains fully booked, millions of migrant workers and employees are relying on buses, which is putting a heavy burden on their pockets. Despite the high prices, tickets are in short supply, forcing passengers to wait for hours and face chaos. At the Parichowk bus stand in Greater Noida, passengers expressed frustration, with some fearing their dream of going home might be shattered, Jagran.com reported.

Passengers Share Plight

Ramu, a Kanpur resident working in a factory, sharing his plight, said that normally, he could reach Kanpur for Rs 750, but now they're asking for Rs 4,800 for a sleeper bus.

Similarly, Vivek, who was heading to Lucknow, said that with three children, the fare per ticket ranges from Rs 4,200 to Rs 4,500. Even ordinary buses are charging Rs 2,000. Although the fares for ordinary buses operated by the Roadways are fixed, women and children are facing difficulties due to the crowd.

Trains are 100 per cent booked, and while the railway has launched special trains, they're insufficient. Over 200 buses operate daily on the Kanpur-Lucknow route, yet demand isn't being met. The situation is expected to persist for the next three days. Typically, over 5,000 passengers travel from Noida to Kanpur and Lucknow daily, but this number doubles during festivals.

Anil Sharma, ARM of the Greater Noida depot, says that all 117 buses are on the road to facilitate passengers. "We're striving to provide the best bus services. If passengers face any issues, they can contact the depot,” Sharma said.
