Lok Sabha Session:  The 18th Lok Sabha will gather for the first session on Monday, June 24, amid the strained equations between the government and the opposition over a host of issues, including the NEET and UGC-NET paper leaks. On the first day, the newly elected members of the Lok Sabha will be administered the oaths and affirmations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his council of ministers will also take the oath. The MPs will be sworn in by the pro-tem speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab. Before the commencing of the session, President Droupadi Murmu will administer Mahtab the oath of pro-tem speaker.

The two-day-long oath session will conclude on June 25, and on June 26, the election for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker will be held. This will be followed by President Droupadi Murmu's address to the joint session of both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha on June 27. The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha will conclude on July 3. The monsoon session will start on July 22.

Oppn To Confront Govt On Paper Leak, Train Accidents

The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha is expected to witness a fierce cornering of treasury benches by the opposition parties. The opposition might launch a joint attack on the government on various issues ranging from its failure to conduct 'free and fair' competitive examinations to the deaths due to severe heatwaves across the country.

A host of other issues is also expected to crop up in the opposition's charge. These include rising food inflation, rampant corruption, price rise and a series of terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.

Congress, DMK Likely To Bring Up NEET, UGC-NET Issue

Congress party, which has seen an almost doubling in its headcount in the Lower House, will likely raise the issue of back-to-back paper leaks in the national level examinations in the country. Notably, a nationwide row has erupted over the allegations of paper leaks and irregularities in two of the biggest exams - NEET (UG) 2024 and UGC-NET 2024. Meanwhile, the Health Ministry cancelled the NEET-PG 2024 exam hours ahead of the scheduled date, citing precautionary measures.

The Congress party and the DMK are expected to bring up the issue fiercely in the parliament in the first session.
