Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his council of ministers and members of the Lower House will take oath in the opening session of the 18th Lok Sabha on June 24, Monday. The election for the Lok Sabha speaker will take place on June 26, whereas the President of India Droupadi Murmu will address the joint sitting of both houses on June 27. The newly appointed pro-tem speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab will be sworn in the elected members of the 18th Lok Sabha, starting with the leader of the house - PM Modi.
However, the first session might witness some tension over the appointment of seven-time Lok Sabha Member and BJP leader Bhartruhari Mahtab as the pro-tem speaker. The move has drawn ire from the opposition as it alleged that the claim of Congress's K Suresh was ignored by the ruling party.

Though the Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiran Rijiju has asserted that Mahtab's seven consecutive terms as Lok Sabha MP made him eligible for the post, Congress alleged that BJP has overlooked the established tradition of appointing the senior-most member of the house as the pro-tem speaker.
Bhartruhari Mahtab has been elected as a Lok Sabha MP for seven uninterrupted terms, While, K Suresh has lost elections in 1998 and 2004 which makes his current term the fourth straight one in the lower house.
President To Administer Oath To Mahtab On Monday
President Murmu will administer the Mahtab oath as the pro-tem speaker on Monday at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, following which he will reach the Lok Sabha and call the house to the order at 11 am on the same day.
The proceedings will start with members observing a moment of silence to mark the first sitting of the 18th Lok Sabha. Following this, Lok Sabha Secretary General Utpal Kumar Singh will present the list of elected members to the House.
Mahtab will then invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Leader of the Lok Sabha, to take his oath as a member of the House.
