Airport Chaos: A chaotic situation unfolded at various airports in major cities, including Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, due to a range of issues, including a snag in the Check-in systems, drawing ire from the passengers. Social media is flooded with posts complaining about the delay in their flights. According to media reports, check-in systems at various airports faced issues on Wednesday morning due to a system outage.

The news agency, PTI, quoting sources, reported that some flights have been delayed due to the issues. "Microsoft Windows reports major service outages globally. IT services/ check in systems at airports are impacted," as per a message for the passengers at the Varanasi airport.

According to the message, airlines have implemented manual check in and boarding procedures. At least four airlines -- IndiGo, SpiceJet, Akasa Air and Air India Express -- have been affected, it said. There were no immediate comments from Microsoft or from the airlines.

"Some domestic airlines are currently experiencing operational challenges, which may lead to delays or schedule challenges.
"Our on-ground teams are diligently working with all stakeholders to ensure a seamless and efficient passenger experience," DIAL said in a post on X at 7.40 am. Specific details could not be immediately ascertained.

Indigo Issues Statement

IndiGo airline company confirmed the issue, saying several flights were delayed due to various reasons, including technology issues, airport congestion, and operational requirements.

"We have had several unavoidable flight delays and some cancellations in the past few days due to various reasons, including technology issues, airport congestion, and operational requirements. Our teams are working diligently to ensure that operations normalise as soon as possible. Furthermore, we are offering alternate flight options or refunds to affected customer, as applicable," the airline said.

According to airport sources, 33 IndiGo flights were cancelled on Tuesday and Wednesday, affecting travellers on key domestic routes.Sixteen departures and 17 arrivals were cancelled across the two days. On December 2, nine departures and five arrivals were cancelled, while Wednesday saw seven departures and 12 arrivals grounded.Flights connecting Hyderabad to Delhi, Bengaluru, Goa, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Hubbali, Bhopal, Visakhapatnam, Chennai and Madurai were among those affected.

Disruption In Services At Hyderabad Airport

The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad saw operational disruption due to technology issues and airport congestion, further causing chaos among passengers.

Earlier on Tuesday, several flights were delayed, diverted, or cancelled due to operational issues and low visibility, causing chaos among passengers. Airport authorities urged travellers to check real-time updates with their respective airlines as disruptions continued till Wednesday.

According to airport sources, two incoming flights scheduled for Hyderabad on Tuesday were diverted due to low visibility. Flight XY325 from Riyadh was diverted to Mumbai, while flight 6E 352 from Pune was redirected to Bengaluru. Officials said more diversions could not be ruled out depending on weather conditions.
