Ludhiana: A dreaded gangster Sukhdev Singh Alias Vicky was shot dead in an encounter by the Punjab Police after he opened fire on the CIA team while being chased. The gangster, a resident of Machhiwara (in Punjab) was wanted in over 25 criminal cases under IPC and CrPC, said police officials.
The wanted gangster had 28 cases registered against him in various police stations across the states of Punjab and Haryana. He and his group robbed a chemist in Jamalpur and shot at an employee of a liquor store in Sehnewal a few days ago, according to a Tribune report.
The special CIA team of Punjab Police got a tip-off about his movement after which he was chased. However, during the attempt to nab him, he fired upon the police team, getting killed in the crossfire.
"Ludhiana Police has killed a criminal in an encounter on Kohda Machhiwada Road. While three accused have been arrested by the police. During this firing, an ASI of the police was also injured and was shot in his thigh. While a police officer survived because he was wearing a bulletproof jacket," said Kuldeep Singh Chahal, Police Commissioner, Ludhiana.

These miscreants were wanted in about two dozen robberies and other criminal incidents," the Commissioner added.

He shot at a police party led by CIA inspector Beant Juneja, firing four to five shots. Fortunately, the inspector survived miraculously due to his bulletproof jacket and the bulletproof Scorpio used by Ludhiana police.
