Gujarat Accident: At least eight people, including two children died in a road accident in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district on Sunday afternoon. Police said the victims were travelling in a Swift Dzire car that collided head-on with a Tata Harrier SUV near Dedadara village in Wadhwan taluka.

The accident occurred around 3:40 PM when the car was heading towards Surendranagar city from Kadu village. The impact of the collision was so severe that the Dzire veered off the highway, fell into a roadside ditch and immediately caught fire, trapping all occupants inside. Locals rushed to the spot but were unable to save those inside as the flames engulfed the vehicle.

Officials confirmed that all eight people in the car were burnt to death. The deceased included five women, the driver and two girls aged 10 months and 13 years. Police later shifted all the bodies to the Surendranagar government hospital for postmortem.

DIG Surendranagar, Girish Pandya, told PTI that three people travelling in the SUV survived with minor injuries and were taken to hospital. “All eight persons in the car were charred to death. The SUV’s front portion was badly damaged, but the passengers managed to escape with injuries,” he said.

Rescue Operation And Traffic Disruption

Following the accident, a team of police, locals and a 108 ambulance rushed to the site. Fire brigade personnel struggled for hours to douse the flames and recover the bodies as the car had been reduced to a burnt shell.

The incident also caused a massive traffic jam on the busy highway, with vehicles lined up for several kilometres before authorities managed to clear the route.

Eyewitnesses described the accident site as “terrifying,” with locals watching helplessly as the car went up in flames. Authorities said preliminary investigations point to overspeeding as a possible cause of the collision, but a detailed probe is underway.
