Gurugram Rains: Amid the relentless downpour and flood-like conditions sweeping across North India, Gurgaon is also reeling under severe urban flooding. In the middle of this chaos, more than 1,200 families in Signature Global Solera, a residential society in Sector 107, were left without electricity for 51 hours. The power went out around 3pm on Monday, just as the city was grappling with knee-deep water across roads, and wasn't restored until 6.30pm on Wednesday.
With waterlogged streets cutting off access, and no electricity or backup power in the society, residents found themselves stranded unable to attend work-from-home meetings, online classes, or even carry out basic tasks at home.
Ashok Kumar, a 37-year-old electrical engineer and resident of the society, shared how his day fell apart, "We are living on candlelight. Even basic household chores are being done in the dark," he told TOI, adding that his son missed school for the second consecutive day.
The cause of the blackout was a fault in the feeder line that led to a transformer tripping at the Sector 107 substation during Monday’s rain. To make matters worse, the society's two entrances were submerged in about three feet of water, forcing residents to manually try and pump water out, an effort that failed, as water from surrounding areas kept pouring back in.
"We can't even step out to buy milk or groceries because both society entrances are submerged under three feet of water. Deliveries have stopped as there is severe waterlogging at both entrances," Ashok added.
In desperation, residents tried building mud barriers to keep the water out, but with little success.

"We even put up mud barriers to stop the water, which didn't help. People were forced to stay inside their homes, while the power supply was only restored after 51 hours," said Santosh Mathur, the RWA general secretary.
Frustrated by the lack of help, many residents took to social media and repeatedly called local authorities, but say they received no response.
"For three days, we were left on our own, with no power, no mobility, no support. It's unacceptable for an entire housing complex to be cut off like this with no intervention," said Rachit Pandey, another resident.
On their part, officials from DHBVN (Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam) stated that they had restored the main supply line on Wednesday morning.
"We have restored the power supply from the switching station in Sector 107 on Wednesday morning. We have asked the society management to test their cable as moisture in cables can cause further damage," said Manoj Kumar, Executive Engineer at DHBVN.
