Guru Tegh Bahadur Controversy: The controversy around Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Atishi’s alleged derogatory remark against Sikh Guru Tegh Bahadur has escalated into a poster war as BJP leader and Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra released a poster on Tuesday, targeting Atishi Marlena.
Holding the poster at a press conference, Mishra highlighted Atishi's absence from public view since the January 6 Assembly debate on the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur. The poster prominently features Atishi's photograph with the word "Missing" in bold, alongside a question demanding to know her whereabouts.
Mishra alleged that Atishi left the Assembly immediately after the discussion and has since avoided media scrutiny and public questions. He accused the AAP leadership of deliberately shifting focus by registering an FIR against him in Punjab for sharing a video clip from the Assembly proceedings.
The BJP leader claimed the move was an attempt to misuse state machinery and deflect attention from the core controversy surrounding Atishi's remarks during the debate.
BJP has made Atishi’s absence from the media centre of its attack against Atishi, demanding that she come forward and clarify allegations against her.
AAP Releases Counter Poster
Retaliating against the BJP’s poster move, AAP has also released a poster targeting Kapil Mishra. AAP demanded an apology from the Delhi minister through the poster, accusing the BJP leader of insulting Guru. The poster carried a slogan, which read as, ‘Guruaan ka apmaan nahi sahega Hindustan’ (India will not tolerate insult to Gurus).

The video was tampered with, false subtitles were added, and the sacred name of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was dragged into petty politics.

The AAP accused Mishra of deliberately giving a communal angle to the statement and circulating a forged video clip of Atishi Marlena from the Delhi assembly.
What Is Guru Tegh Bahadur Controversy
BJP accused the AAP leader and the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi assembly, Atishi Marlena, of using ‘insensitive words’ against the Sikh guru during a winter session debate, while AAP accused the BJP of ‘false claims’.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva shared a video on X on Sunday, claiming that Atishi was speaking against Guru Tegh Bahadur. Sachdeva challenged AAP to file an FIR against him, saying, ‘Delhi minister Kapil Mishra had shared the video clip related to Atishi Marlena’s controversial statement during the assembly proceedings on X, following which the AAP government in Punjab got an FIR registered against him.’
On the other hand, AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj protested outside the BJP’s headquarters, alleging that the video being circulated by the BJP is ‘doctored’ and that it was the BJP leaders who had disrespected Guru Tegh Bahadur and other Sikh gurus.
