US President Donald Trump on Tuesday urged Iranians to continue protesting against their government, assuring that “help is on its way” without providing further specifics, signing off his message with “Make Iran Great Again (MIGA).” The remarks came as nationwide demonstrations in Iran have left over 2,000 people dead.

In a Truth Social post, Trump described the protesters as “patriots” and called on them to seize control of national institutions. “Iranian Patriots, KEEP PROTESTING – TAKE OVER YOUR INSTITUTIONS!!!... HELP IS ON ITS WAY,” he wrote, also announcing the cancellation of all meetings with Iranian officials until the “senseless killing” of demonstrators ceases.

Iran Reaches Out Amid Military Threats

Earlier, Trump revealed that Iran’s leadership had reached out to negotiate after US threats of military action amid the ongoing unrest. “The leaders of Iran called yesterday,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday. “A meeting is being set up. They want to negotiate.” However, Trump added that “we may have to act before a meeting,” signalling that military options remain under consideration.

Russia Condemns US Threats

Russia condemned what it described as “subversive external interference” in Iran’s internal affairs. The Russian Foreign Ministry called US threats of strikes “categorically unacceptable” and warned of “disastrous consequences” for the Middle East and global security if foreign powers act against Iran.

Trump has repeatedly highlighted the military as an active consideration. “We’re looking at it very seriously. The military is looking at it, and we’re looking at some very strong options,” he said, noting that he receives hourly briefings on the situation.

In addition to military threats, Trump announced 25% import tariffs on products from countries that continue business with Iran, a major oil exporter. China criticised the move, while Iran’s other trading partners, including Turkey, Iraq, the UAE, and India, are closely watching the unfolding tensions. Tehran has not yet issued a public response to the tariffs.
