A Man impersonating as an IAS officer has been arrested for cheating many job seekers in Gurugram by promising to get them jobs. The accused, identified as a 31-year-old Jai Prakash Pathak, was held on Friday for extorting money from people by promising government jobs, facilitating employee transfers, and misusing his fake identity to influence.

Pathak, a resident of Raghui Pur village in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh, who has studied up to Class 12, used fake documents, an arms licence and a vehicle fitted with ‘Government of India’ to dupe people.

A team from the Palam Vihar police station, led by station house officer, inspector Bijender Singh, raided a rented place where Pathak was staying, after they received a tip-off. Police successfully caught him after he tried to escape the location. 

“Six mobile phones, a laptop, a walkie-talkie set, an Ayushman Bharat card, three Aadhaar cards, an ATM card, a PAN card, a passport, two official seals, red and blue beacon lights, ₹2.5 lakh in cash, and a car with “Government of India” markings were also seized,” said Sandeep Kumar, Gurugram police spokesperson.

Pathak allegedly posed as an IAS officer from the Ministry of Home Affairs to extort money from job seekers by promising government positions and facilitating transfers. The accused was found with fake documents, a forged arms license, and a vehicle with "Government of India" markings.

Pathak is also booked in a similar case in Uttar Pradesh, where he posed as a senior officer to defraud people. “We are questioning him to identify his victims and to determine the extent of his network,” said a senior police officer.
