Gurugram Metro Update: The Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has announced the launch of tenders for the construction of the first phase of the Gurugram Metro, which will connect Millennium City Centre to Sector 9. Officials revealed that the estimated cost for this ambitious project is Rs 1,286 crore, with bids set to be opened on April 22.

GMRL is tasked with implementing mass rapid transport projects in Haryana. The first phase of the metro will feature a 15.22 km viaduct, 15 stations, a 1.85 km spur leading to the Dwarka Expressway and a ramp connecting to the proposed depot in Sector 33.

Gurugram Metro Phase 1 Stations List

According to a Hindustan report, the planned metro stations in this phase include Millennium City Centre, which will link to the existing DMRC station, as well as stations at Sector 45, Cyber Park (Sector 46), Sector 47, Subhash Chowk, Sector 48, Sector 33, Hero Honda Chowk, Udyog Vihar Phase 6, Sector 10, Sector 37, Basai, Sector 9 and Sector 101.

Chander Shekhar Khare, managing director of GMRL, emphasised the commitment to commence construction in May, following directions from the chief minister. “This project will revolutionise the transport system in the city. We will ensure that construction proceeds smoothly, minimising any inconvenience for commuters,” he stated.

According to the tender document released on March 8, the chosen contractor will be responsible for conducting a thorough survey of the viaduct's alignment, constructing the station structure, including the track support, commercial areas, and other civil works.

A senior official from GMRL stated that the contractor must establish a control room equipped with round-the-clock communication links with all safety offices and work sites. Ensuring the safety of workers and the public during construction is a top priority. The contractor will collaborate with district administration and traffic police to implement traffic diversions to maintain smooth vehicle flow.

Additionally, in their recent meeting, the GMRL board discussed plans to plant 16,600 trees as compensatory afforestation due to the removal of 1,660 trees for the metro project. The board aims to secure 17 hectares of land for this initiative in partnership with the forest department and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
